Nicaragua and OAS hold talks

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, June 17 (UPI) -- Nicaraguan President Enrique Bolanos has met with the head of the Organization of American states for talks on ending the country's political unrest.

OAS Secretary-General Jose Miguel Insulza met with Bolanos in the Nicaraguan capital, which has been besieged by several days of protests, La Prensa newspaper reported Friday in its online edition.

Opposition lawmakers and protesters are calling for Bolanos to resign. In turn, the president has accused lawmakers of approving legislation that curtails his authority.
