'Binge drinking's refers to only youth

LONDON, June 17 (UPI) -- Although binge-drinking youth dominate British headlines, a report finds older drinkers are most likely to succumb to an alcohol-related death.

Professor Dick Hobbs, author of the report by the Economic & Social Research Council, said the term binge drinker now refers almost exclusively to "young people drunk and disorderly in public places" and almost never refers to older drinkers who drink alcohol at home.

Binge drinkers are noisy and violent, often urinate in public and come into conflict with police, said Hobbs, but they are also linked to alcohol-related diseases, accidents in the home or domestic violence.
