Worldwide pedophile register proposed

GLENEAGLES, Scotland, June 16 (UPI) -- The G8 summit next month in Scotland is expected to approve development of a worldwide pedophile register to catch those who prey on children.

The proposal calls for justice and home affairs ministers from the top eight industrial countries in the world to agree to build a system to scan the faces of adults who have sex with children, Sky News reported.

The Group of Eight is made up of seven of the world's richest nations plus Russia.

Separately, Britain's Home Secretary Charles Clarke told BBC Radio 4's Today program initial work on the register has been done by Interpol.

"We have been able to use the technology and take it forward," Clarke said. "And as a means of tackling this kind of vile organized crime, it is very positive."

A database run by British police already holds 800,000 images.
