2 killed in Conn. courthouse shooting

MIDDLETOWN, Conn., June 15 (UPI) -- A retired Connecticut state trooper killed his estranged wife and wounded her lawyer outside the Middlesex Superior Court building before shooting himself.

The shootings occurred in a city-owned parking lot about 20 minutes before the start of court, WABC, New York, said.

The victims were not immediately identified, but WABC said the shooter in the domestic dispute was a retired Connecticut state police officer.

Witnesses reporting hearing at least eight gunshots fired. CNN said the gunman then fatally shot himself.

The wounded attorney was reported in critical but stable condition.

State police ordered the courthouse, about 20 miles south of Hartford, locked down.
