Wen said that China is still facing serious challenges in HIV/AIDS prevention and control, but said the government had put increased manpower and financial resources into the fight, and support systems involving all sectors of society were in place.
Wen made the remarks in a meeting with Peter Piot, executive director of the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS, Monday in Beijing.

China's Cabinet set up an AIDS Prevention Committee headed by Vice Premier Wu Yi in 2004. In September 2003 the government announced it would provide free anti-retroviral treatment to AIDS patients in rural areas and to those in urban areas with financial difficulties.
