School bomber was survival game fan

HIKARI, Japan, June 13 (UPI) -- Police said the Japanese teenager arrested for hurling an explosive into a high school classroom last week was a fan of militaristic survival games.

The 18-year-old student at Hikari High School became isolated at the high school because his friends from junior high school went to different schools and he could not get along with his new classmates, the Mainichi Shimbun reported Monday.

The boy regularly played a survival game with friends from his former school, in which two teams armed with air guns scramble to capture flags.

Police earlier learned that he had bought a book that describes how to make an explosive.

Investigators view the latest discovery as proof that the student was highly interested in military affairs and are questioning him over the motives behind the attack that left 58 students injured.
