BEIJING, June 11 (UPI) -- The death toll from a flash flood in northeastern China rose to 64 Saturday as the government dispatched more than 1,400 rescuers to the scene.
A mountain torrent hit a primary school around 2:00 p.m. Friday in Ning'an City, in Heilongjiang Province.

The state Xinhua news agency said 62 of the dead were students, and the other two were villagers. Another 17 students, a teacher and six villagers were hospitalized.
The flooding affected seven villages in the area, with about 3,200 acres of farm land devastated and 55 collapsed houses.
A rescue including 1,000 soldiers and 400 government officials arrived in the area Saturday.
