Israel arrests 8 Palestinians in West Bank

GAZA, June 9 (UPI) -- Israel arrested eight Islamic Jihad activists in the West Bank, evoking threats by the militant group to retaliate further jeopardizing a Middle East truce.

A Jihad statement said Israeli troops made the arrests early Thursday in Araba, south of Jenin, and in Baka Sharqiya near Tul Karem.

Elsewhere, four Palestinians were injured in clashes between Israeli troops and demonstrators protesting Israel's construction of the separation barrier in the West Bank city of Salfit.

Palestinian sources said the troops attacked the demonstrators with clubs and fired tear gas to disperse them, wounding four.
