
BAGHDAD, June 8 (UPI) -- Four U.S. troops were killed in insurgent attacks in Iraq Wednesday, U.S. military officials said.
Also Wednesday, gunmen in Baghdad killed Iraqi National Assembly member Fereydoun Abdul Qader and two security guards.
One of the U.S. casualties occurred when a roadside bomb killed a soldier who was in a vehicle while on patrol near Ad Dawr, where Saddam Hussein was captured by U.S. troops in 2003, a U.S. military spokesman said.
Another roadside bomb exploded and killed a soldier while on patrol in northern Baghdad.
Two soldiers with the 42nd Infantry Division were killed during an "indirect fire attack" near a coalition base in Tikrit.
At least 1,670 U.S. troops have died in Iraq since March 2003, 1,290 of them killed in action, according to the Pentagon.
