Plot meant to injure Princess Di: claim

LONDON, June 1 (UPI) -- A former MI5 employee has claimed the British secret services only planned to injure Princess Diana in the car crash that killed her.

Ex-spy Annie McMahon, who worked for the British Intelligence agency between 1991 and 1995, told the Guernsey Press the ministry wanted to injure the princess so she would break off her relationship with Dodi Al Fayed.

McMahon, claims the British intelligence service MI6 was keen the princess, who died in 1997, did not want to make a martyr out of Diana. But the plan backfired when the princess and her lover, Dodi, were killed when the Mercedes they were travelling in crashed into a pillar on a Paris underpass.

Ten months before her death, the princess, the first wife of Prince Charles, wrote a series of notes predicting her own death in a car with faulty brakes.

She wrote in an October 1996 letter: "XXXXXXXXXXX is planning 'an accident' in my car, brake failure and serious head injury in order to make the path clear for Charles to marry."
