20 die in Bangladesh heat wave

DHAKA, Bangladesh, June 1 (UPI) -- Bangladesh is in the grips of a deadly heat wave that has already claimed 20 lives and made hundreds more ill.

With record temperatures around 104 degrees Fahrenheit, the heat wave, one of the worst to sweep the mostly flat Bay of Bengal delta country, has disrupted life throughout the country, the Press of India reported.

Hospital officials said hundreds of people were down with diarrhea and high fevers as well as accompanying cough.

"We are advising people to take lot of liquid and stay out of direct sun," said a doctor in the capital Dhaka.
