Malina immigrated to Israel 10 years ago. On Aug. 21, 1995, not long after his arrival, he was taking a bus to the Hebrew University law school when a suicide bomber blew it up.

Malina was injured in the upper spine and left completely paralyzed, unable even to breathe without a respirator.

Malina's parents and sister, who live in Switzerland, brought him there for treatment after the attack. At the time, he was in a coma, and doctors predicted he would be dead in a year.

But Malina regained consciousness and demanded to be brought back to Israel for treatment. However, he was still

unable to move, and did not even watch television or listen to the radio.
