Israel awash in industrial spying claims

JERUSALEM, May 31 (UPI) -- Israeli police were busy interviewing senior executives of numerous major companies Tuesday in a rash of allegations of industrial espionage.

Police told Haartez they were amazed at the quantity of documents seized and the companies involved in spying allegations.

Tuesday, investigators questioned Danny Targan, the chairman of the Tami 4 water purifier dispensers company, suspected of commissioning spying against rival Mei Eden.

Then, the director of the Home Center chain of hardware stores, Aharon Meidan, also gave testimony over alleged espionage on rival Ace Hardware.

In Tel Aviv, senior officials of Amdocs, which provides customer care, billing and order management systems for telecommunications carriers, and Internet services providers were also interrogated aver allegations of spying on the financial daily Globe newspaper.

Police said in some cases, there appears to be sufficient evidence to charge several people with introducing Trojan horse spyware into the computers of their customers' competitors.
