CARACAS, Venezuela, May 26 (UPI) -- Cuba's speaker of parliament has called for the United States to extradite a Cuban dissident to Venezuela to face terror charges.

Speaking to Venezuelan lawmakers in Caracas, Ricardo Alarcon demanded Thursday the United States hand over Posada Carriles" class="tpstyle">Luis Posada Carriles.

Posada is charged in Venezuela with masterminding the bombing of a Cuban jetliner in 1976, killing 73 people.

Alarcon said Posada must face trial for his alleged participation in the bombing.

The Cuban dissident has denied any involvement in the bombing. Both Venezuela and Cuba are demanding his extradition to Venezuela.

Posada also has been accused in an assassination attempt on Cuban President Fidel Castro in Panama in 2000 and a series of bombings in Cuba in 1997.
