BEIRUT, Lebanon, May 24 (UPI) -- Lebanese President Emile Lahoud Tuesday said resistance against Israel would continue until a just and lasting peace is achieved.

Lahoud's remarks came on the eve of the fifth anniversary of Israel's unconditional withdrawal from Lebanon largely due to the guerrilla warfare waged by Hezbollah.

"Lebanon became the only Arab country which could regain a great part of its occupied territory from Israel without making concessions, which the people reject," the pro-Syrian Lahoud said.

Lebanon also is committed to securing the liberation of all Lebanese prisoners in Israeli jails, he said.
