ULAANBAATAR, Mongolia, May 22 (UPI) -- Voters in Mongolia voted Sunday for a new president, with a candidate of the former-Communist Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party favored in polls.

Several polls found people favor MPRP's candidate, Nambaryn Enkhbayar, over Democrat rival, Enkh Saikhan, and the two other candidates, the BBC reported.

Electing the candidate could lead to friction with the Democrat Party prime minister, even thought the role of president is largely ceremonial, according to analysts.

Although the former client state of the now defunct Soviet Union still faces deep poverty and social problems, analysts say Mongolia shows little sign of the instability found in the former Soviet republics of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
