TEHRAN, May 18 (UPI) -- A high-ranking Iranian official has warned that Iran could defeat Israel quickly if the Jewish state attacked Iranian nuclear installations.
The official, whose name was not disclosed, was quoted Wednesday in the Saudi daily newspaper al-Hayat, which is monitored in Beirut, as saying, "Iran is ready for all possibilities, including the military option to defend its right for possessing nuclear technology for peaceful ends."
Asked if his government feared an Israeli strike, the official said, "We will defeat Israel in only two days, in case it attacks us."
"If Israel undertakes such an adventure, we will change our whole policy in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Afghanistan. ... If they want the oil barrel to reach $200, let them strike us," he added.
The official accused Europe of carrying out U.S. policies, "namely trying to deprive us of having a program for enriching uranium for civilian objectives."
"We are even ready for a military option to defend our nuclear rights," the official added.
