BOSTON, May 17 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts court has refused to suspend house arrest for a Saudi Arabian princess accused of enslaving her two maids because she poses a flight risk.
Hana F. Al Jader of Winchester, Mass., who faces 20 years in prison if convicted of forced labor, had asked to be freed from electronic monitoring, the Boston Herald reported Tuesday.
"She has every incentive to flee the prospect of a substantial prison sentence," Assistant U.S. Attorney Theodore Merritt said in court papers.
Al Jader may have been hurt by her teenage son's remarks to a delivery driver not to unpack a shipment because the family was moving back to Saudi Arabia.
However, Al Jader attorney James Michael Merberg said his client has no plans to flee and wants to clear her name of charges she abused two maids from Indonesia, court papers say.
