Colombia makes record drug bust

BOGOTA, May 13 (UPI) -- Colombian authorities said Friday they made the biggest drug bust in the nation's history when they grabbed 12 tons of cocaine valued at $300 million.

Police and Colombia's navy found the massive cocaine shipment at a jungle camp along a river in southwest Colombia where five people were arrested and several weapons seized, El Tiempo newspaper reported in its online edition.

Authorities said they thought the cocaine belonged to Colombia's leading right-wing paramilitary group, the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, or AUC.

The Colombian government is currently holding peace and disarmament talks with the AUC.
