UK Muslims protest Israel anniversary

LONDON, May 12 (UPI) -- The Islamic Committee for Human Rights Thursday organized a demonstration in London to protest celebrations marking the creation of Israel.

The protest took place in Wembley in western London outside the conference center where the Zionist Organization in Britain and Northern Ireland was holding a function to mark the 57th anniversary of the creation of the Jewish state.

Committee President Massoud Shajra said the protest was to denounce "the atrocities committed by the Israeli forces against the Palestinians."

"It is unacceptable to have celebrations to commemorate a day that symbolizes violence and the suffering of the Palestinian people," Shajra added.
