TAMPA, Fla., May 12 (UPI) -- Florida Gov. Jeb Bush warns this year's hurricane season could be even worse than last year's disastrous season.

"The upcoming hurricane season could present us with challenges we didn't see in 2004, believe it or not," Bush told the 2005 Governor's Hurricane Conference in Tampa, Fla.

The St. Petersburg Times reported Thursday that on the positive side, Bush said Florida officials have been able to pinpoint some of the problems last year and work on solving them.

He said communications will be better; food, water and ice supply pipelines will be better; and special needs storm victims will get better care.

Bush spoke Wednesday to 2,900 participants from all 67 of Florida's counties.

He said surveys revealed 70 percent of Florida residents living within 5 miles of the coast have evacuation plans.

"But I'm also concerned because that means 30 percent don't and that's a lot of people," Bush said.
