PA slams Israel's FM statements on pullout

GAZA, May 10 (UPI) -- A Palestinian Authority official Tuesday accused Israel of looking for excuses to avoid resuming peace talks.

Israeli Foreign Minister Sylvan Shalom Monday warned Israel would reconsider its pullout from Gaza if the militant Hamas movement wins legislative elections, tentatively scheduled for July 17.

Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat told reporters in Gaza City Shalom's threat was "rude and indecent."

No matter what party rules, Israel would still object, he said.

"Israel doesn't even consider Fatah movement as a partner" even though that is the party of the PA president, he said.

"Israel is still adopting such a policy ... to escape resuming the peace negotiations," Erekat said.
