Arrests made in Iraq aid worker's death

BAGHDAD, May 9 (UPI) -- Four people have been arrested in the abduction and killing of Irish-born aid worker Margaret Hassan in Iraq, the Irish Echo reported Monday.

U.S. military spokesman Chief Petty Officer Cory Drake told the newspaper by telephone articles of clothing and paperwork with Hassan's name were found during an early morning raid of an insurgents' hideout in Madaen, a town south of Baghdad.

He said some of the suspects have confessed to playing a role in slaying of the Dublin-born director of CARE International's Baghdad office in November.

Hassan, 59, had spent 25 years in Baghdad before being abducted Oct. 19. Her kidnappers released two videotapes of her begging for her life, before a third was issued in November showing her being shot point-blank in the head. Her body has never been recovered.
