3rd-grader nearly killed in school prank

PHILADELPHIA, May 5 (UPI) -- A Philadelphia third grader almost killed himself trying to pull a prank on classmates by hooking himself to the wall and pretending to die.

Nine-year-old Dominic Jones ended up unconscious after he hooked his shirt in the class coat room, part of his practical joke to pretend to come back as a ghost.

His teacher found him hanging unconscious from a coat hook, and called emergency personnel who performed CPR on the Pennypacker Elementary School student, the Philadelphia Daily News reported Thursday.

The prank was part of an ongoing battle among classmates to win the title of ultimate jokester.

Dominic was rushed to the hospital after his prank last Tuesday and was released earlier this week.

Jones' prank also frightened his teacher so much she had to take time off. The boy's grandmother, however, said she wouldn't punish him for the prank.

"He has already been through enough," she said.
