Report: Autopsy for Emmett Till's body

CHICAGO, May 4 (UPI) -- The FBI reportedly is ready to order exhumation of the body of Emmett Till 50 years after the Chicago teen was kidnapped and killed in rural Mississippi.

A source told the Chicago Sun-Times Till's body, which is buried next to his mother's at Burr Oak Cemetery in Alsip, Ill., will be exhumed in a few weeks for an autopsy by the Cook County Medical Examiner.

Till's slaying for whistling at a white woman in a country store in Money, Miss., in 1955 remains unsolved. Two men charged with kidnapping, torturing and killing Till were acquitted by an all-white jury in a sham trial.

The U.S. Justice Department reopened the case in 2004 after a documentary, "The Untold Story of Emmett Till," claimed to have uncovered new evidence.

Till's mother ordered the casket open for his funeral to let the world see how her son had been savagely mutilated. Mamie Till Mosley became a crusader for civil rights. She died in 2003.
