The letter also asks Afghans to not to cooperate with the U.S.-led coalition forces.

In a statement issued from an unidentified place in Afghanistan, a Taliban spokesman also said schools and hospitals were "legitimate targets" for the insurgents because they ware run by a U.S.-backed government.

The first night letter, placed on the body of an Afghan National Army soldier, justified unearthing and desecrating bodies of the soldiers killed while fighting Taliban insurgents. The soldier was killed during an earlier encounter with the Taliban.

The second letter, posted on walls, warned of dire consequences for supporting the Afghan government and the third letter, posted on the door of a mosque, urged Afghan citizens to support the Taliban in the name of religion.

At a recent meeting in Ghazni, 48 village leaders urged citizens not to listen to the Taliban and also decided not to protect Taliban fighters running from U.S. and Afghan forces.
