El Salvador is the only country in the region that still has troops in Iraq after several others withdrew their forces.

Rice's visit to El Salvador marks the end of her tour that included stops in Brazil, Colombia and Chile.

During her travels, she often spoke in favor of greater trade integration with the United States and against leftist Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez for his alleged efforts to create an authoritarian state.
