Woman rescued by Circle Line crewmen

NEW YORK, April 30 (UPI) -- The crew of New York's Circle Line ferry has rescued "an emotionally disturbed woman" who jumped into the Hudson River.

Passengers on the ferry, which was headed to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, said the woman had been standing on the railing and then jumped overboard. However, when she hit the water, the woman started moaning "I don't want to die," witnesses said.

About 10 minutes after the woman hit the water; Capt. Mike Muldoon maneuvered the ferry close enough for two crewmen to row over in a lifeboat.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and held for observation.

Circle Line President J.B. Meyer said "an emotionally disturbed woman jumped off the back of one of our vessels."

"The captain did a great job of turning the boat around and the crew was right on it," he said. "The men on this crew have 10 and 12 years of experience, and it paid off today."
