Maradona offered coaching job

BUENOS AIRES, April 30 (UPI) -- Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona has been offered a position coaching with his former team, La Nacion newspaper reported Saturday.

If he accepts, Maradona would coach the youth division of Boca Juniors, one of Argentina's most popular clubs.

The 44-year-old former soccer great underwent stomach stapling surgery earlier this year to help him lose weight. Maradona suffered from severe obesity and other illnesses caused by his dependency on cocaine.

However, since the surgery, he has reportedly lost more than 70 pounds and has made progress in a rehabilitation program. Maradona has spent much the last few years at a drug treatment clinic in Cuba.
