BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, April 29 (UPI) -- Kyrgyzstan's new leader is making this year's crop harvest his top priority, Interfax news agency reported Friday.
Interim President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, who came to power on March 24 after popular protests toppled President Askar Akayev, said that conducting the springtime sowing campaign and preparing for new presidential elections later this year dominated his government's agenda.
"The government must finish the springtime sowing campaign in time, take steps to bring the situation in the country back to normal, continue to counter corruption and revive the economy," Bakiyev said at a meeting with leaders of political parties and non-governmental organizations.
