Putin urges envoy to Arab League

CAIRO, April 27 (UPI) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged the Arab League to accept an ambassador from Moscow, Interfax news agency reported Wednesday.

The Russian president suggested that the Arab League accredit the Russian ambassador in Cairo as Russia's representative to it, Interfax said.

"We intend to continue to maintain dialogue [between Russia and the Arab

League] at the highest level," Putin said speaking at the league's headquarters in Cairo.

"We suggest that accreditation of our ambassador in Cairo as Russia's representative in the League of Arab States be considered. I ask you to think about this, make a decision and inform us about it," Putin said.
