PHILADELPHIA, April 27 (UPI) -- Philadelphia police have arrested four young people in the "evil and barbaric" killing of a 15-year-old girl.
Christine Ham was stabbed, beaten, choked and set on fire before being thrown into the Schuylkill River in southwest Philadelphia early Sunday morning. She managed to drag herself way out of the water and collapsed and bled to death on the riverbank, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
The three males and a female ranging in age from 17 to 20 all confessed to involvement in the slaying, police said.
"Even homicide detectives are astounded and find it very disturbing to think that four young people could allegedly commit such an evil and barbaric act," said Homicide Capt. Richard Ross.
Investigators said the slaying stemmed from a March 13 altercation between one of the attackers and the victim over whose neighborhood was tougher.
"Just when we think that young people are incapable of being more brutal than brutal, we are again forced to confront the kind of remarkable, excruciating, horrible violence visited upon a 15-year-old by young people," District Attorney Lynne Abraham said.
