Thousands mourn Lebanon MP

BEIRUT, Lebanon, April 22 (UPI) -- Thousands of Lebanese took part Friday in the funeral of MP Bassel Fleihan, who died from burns suffered in the Feb. 14 blast that killed Premier Rafik Hariri.

The funeral procession was led by Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Hariri's son Saad and the leader of the multi-sectarian Lebanese opposition Walid Jumblat, who is also a member of parliament.

The coffin draped in the Lebanese flag and carried on a carriage pulled by horses was followed by the dignitaries and Fleihan's wife and two young children. Fleihan died Monday in Paris where he was receiving treatment for burns received in the explosion that also claimed the lives of 18 other people.

The mourners carried posters of Fleihan and Hariri as well as placards demanding the truth and the punishment of the party responsible for the Feb. 14 blast.

U.N. Security Council resolution 1595 calls for conducting an international investigation into Hariri's assassination.
