3rd conspirator in shoebomb plot sentenced

LONDON, April 22 (UPI) -- A third conspirator in a plot to blow up a passenger plane with a shoe bomb has drawn a 13-year prison sentence in Britain.

Saajid Badat, 25, of Gloucester, pleaded guilty to being part of a plot to blow up a passenger plane to the United States, the BBC reported Friday.

Fellow Briton Richard Reid, who was subdued by fellow passengers while trying to detonate an explosive in his shoe in December, 2001, while en route to Boston, and a Belgian terrorist, Nizar Trabelsi, are serving prison terms for the crime.
