Baghdad car bomb kills 4, injures 38

BAGHDAD, April 19 (UPI) -- A suicide car bombing in Baghdad Tuesday killed at least four Iraqi army soldiers and recruits and injured 38 others.

The midday attack happened near one of former dictator Saddam Hussein's palaces in the north of the city, a building now used as a base for coalition and Iraqi troops, partly as a recruiting center, CNN reported.

Among those killed when a minibus exploded were two members of the Iraqi army and two recruits, while the wounded included eight Iraqi army soldiers and 30 recruits.

As U.S. commanders push for Iraq to assume more control of security with its own forces, such insurgent attacks are increasing to destabilize the government and intimidate citizens.

Monday, about 10 insurgents dressed in Iraqi military uniforms killed an officer and his son at their home in southern Baghdad, police sources said.

Despite the bloodshed, U.S. authorities said an Iraqi teenager was brave enough to tip them off about the location of a west Baghdad safe house hiding an insurgent, who was taken into custody Friday.
