School bus, garbage truck collide head-on

ARLINGTON, Va., April 18 (UPI) -- One child was killed and a dozen injured Monday when a school bus collided head-on with a garbage truck in Arlington, Va.

Two students and the drivers of both vehicles were hospitalized in critical condition, while 12 other children were treated at Virginia Hospital Center for minor injuries, WTOP, Washington reported.

"This is an awful morning for any school system. ... The bus driver has been with us 11 years and has an excellent driving record," said Linda Erdos, director of school and community relations for Arlington County Public Schools.
