Hamas denies militants joining PA forces

April 16, 2005 at 7:41 AM   |   Comments

GAZA, April 16 (UPI) -- Hamas denied Saturday the intention of certain members of its military wing, al-Qassam Brigades, to enroll in Palestinian Authority security agencies.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zahri told UPI, "Reports by PA officials that Hamas fighters might enroll in the PA forces is totally untrue."

He said Hamas refuses to disarm and merge its forces in the PA as long as the "occupation troops committed their crimes" against the Palestinians and the PA is unable to protect the Palestinian militants wanted by Israel.

PA official Abdel Fatah Hamayel said earlier Saturday that wanted Palestinian fighters in al-Qassam Brigades expressed their desire to join the PA security forces.
