Mich. court rejects same-sex benefits suit

LANSING, Mich., April 15 (UPI) -- The Michigan Court of Appeals rejected a challenge to Ann Arbor Public Schools' policy of extending healthcare benefits to employee's same-sex partners.

The three-judge court's unanimous ruling was based on the improper filing of the complaint by a group of Ann Arbor taxpayers and did not address whether a marriage amendment approved by voters in November could invalidate the policy, the Detroit Free Press reported.

The Ingham County Circuit Court is currently considering another suit, filed by the American Civil Liberties Union, attempting to block a move by state officials to revoke benefits for same-sex partners.
