Woman jacks Girl Scout cookies

, April 8 (UPI) -- A woman from Shelby County, Ala., has been charged with the theft of $4,848 worth of Girl Scout cookies, the Birmingham (Ala.) News reported Friday.

Thirty-three-year-old Doris LeAnn Taylor allegedly ordered 3,020 boxes of Girl Scout cookies and then failed to either pay for them or hand them back to the Girl Scouts of Cahaba Council.

Authorities recently recovered 1,404 of the boxes in storage in Pelham, Ala. The Cahaba Council, which serves seven counties, contacted Shelby County Sheriff's Department after repeatedly failing to collect the other 1,616 boxes or recover the money.

Taylor is a "cookie mom," which means she took responsibility for supervising the Scout group's cookie sales. She also has a history of writing bad checks, the News said.

The Cahaba Council is moving ahead with its mission of helping girls lead better lives and is leaving Taylor's fate to the local authorities, a spokeswoman said.
