Norwegians hopeful about Munch case

OSLO, Norway, April 7 (UPI) -- Norwegian police seeking thieves of two Edvard Munch masterpieces say the heist may have been a diversion from an earlier massive bank robbery.

Detectives arrested David Toska, reportedly the mastermind behind the massive robbery of the Norwegian Cash Service offices in downtown Stavanger, April 5, the first anniversary of the crime, Aftenposten reported Thursday.

Because Toska was arrested with a suspected hashish smuggler, investigators speculate a number of gangs may have cooperated in stealing "The Scream" and "Madonna" from the Munch Museum in Oslo last August to distract detectives from making progress in solving the bank robbery.
