Prince Charles to attend pope's funeral

LONDON, April 4 (UPI) -- Prince Charles will represent the British royal family at the Friday funeral of Pope John Paul II in Rome.

The prince's household, Clarence House, announced Monday his wedding to Camilla Parker-Bowles would be postponed until Saturday.

He will be joined in Rome by Prime Minister Tony Blair, Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, and Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor, the head of the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales.

Had Charles and Camilla's wedding gone ahead as planned, both Blair and Williams would have found themselves in a difficult position. The prime minister is to be a guest at the Royal wedding, while the Church of England leader is conducting a 45 minute blessing service at Windsor Castle after the civil wedding service.
