Maradona says he's 'in love' with Chavez

CARACAS, Venezuela, April 1 (UPI) -- Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona is reportedly "in love" with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, the Buenos Aires Herald reports.

After having lunch with Chavez in the Venezuelan capital, Maradona told reporters while he likes women, he has "fallen in love with Chavez" for his leftist politics and programs.

Earlier this week during a summit of Latin American and Spanish leaders, the 44-year-old former star expressed his support for Chavez and his agenda in Venezuela, namely his use of oil revenue to fund healthcare and education.

Venezuela is the world's fifth largest oil exporter.

"I am a revolutionary," Maradona told reporters this week, pointing to a tattoo of Argentine revolutionary Che Guevara on his right arm. "If I can incorporate myself into the revolution (in Venezuela), that would be good."

Maradona is also a professed admirer of Fidel Castro in Cuba where he has spent the last few years in a drug treatment clinic trying to overcome his cocaine addiction.
