Tehran blast Egypt ruling on Iran diplomat

TEHRAN, March 29 (UPI) -- Iran lodged a protest with Egypt Tuesday over the sentending in absentia of a former Iranian diplomat to 35 years in prison for spying.

The Iranian News Agency, IRNA, said the foreign ministry summoned the head of the Egyptian interest section in Tehran, Shawki Ismail, to protest "the unfounded and unjustified sentence by an Egyptian security court."

Ismail reportedly said he would relay the complaint to Cairo immediately.

Former Iranian diplomat in Cairo, Mohammed Reza Dost, was accused of recruiting an Egyptian to spy for a foreign country.
