Bushes return to the White House

WASHINGTON, March 28 (UPI) -- President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush returned to the White House Monday after spending the Easter weekend in Texas.

The president, within minutes of arriving by motorcade from Andrews Air Force Base, went to work, meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Petros Molyviatis and a number of Greek-Americans to mark Greek independence Day.

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino earlier said the president had been briefed on the earthquake in Indonesia and "we are monitoring the situation."

The earthquake, estimated to have been about 8.5 on the Richter scale, struck near the island of Sumatra and immediately sparked fears of new Tsunamis throughout the region.

The Bush's had missed the annual Easter Egg Roll children's party at the White House earlier Monday, which was canceled after 2-1/2 hours because of rain. They also missed a protest in Lafayette Park, across from the White House, by about 18 people demanding brain-damaged Terri Schiavo be reconnected to her feeding and hydration tubes.
