Illinois seeks father of asphyxiated baby

CHICAGO, March 26 (UPI) -- An autopsy on a missing 2-month-old girl whose body was found in a tool bag under a Chicago-area overpass has determined she was asphyxiated.

Cook County authorities Friday found the body of Juanita Hernandez, who had been missing since Monday, after a tip from a friend of the missing child's family. The unidentified man told investigators he gained the information from a friend of the girl's father.

A coroner ruled the death a homicide, the Sun-Times reported.

The girl's mother told authorities she left the baby and a 2-year-old child Monday with her boyfriend, the baby's father, while she went to look for a job, Mount Prospect Police Cmdr. Bob Rzepecki said.

When she returned, all three were missing, and Wednesday she filed a missing-persons report. The 2-year-old has since been found and returned home.

Illinois State Police were searching Saturday for Juanita's father.
