Jury split in cocaine trial

PITTSBURGH, March 17 (UPI) -- An alleged Pennsylvania drug kingpin's trial ended with a hung jury and claims that two holdouts for acquittal were biased toward the defendant.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that prosecutors plan to retry Terrance Larnell Cole this spring. The jury convicted another defendant, Kevin Gray, of cocaine distribution.

Several members of the jury said one holdout told them that if Cole was convicted they would be putting themselves and their families at risk.

The other holdout caused a flap during the prosecution's closing arguments when a federal agent said that he winked at Cole. The juror denied the charge, saying that he was having eye problems.

Prosecutors say tCole imported $40 million worth of cocaine into the Pittsburgh area between 1991 and 2003, breaking down large quantities at his sister's or mother's home. He allegedly laundered his profits by buying winning lottery tickets or at Atlantic City casinos, making enough money to invest in 17 properties.
