TREVISO, Italy, March 15 (UPI) -- Italy's unabomber, who has been terrorizing the northeastern region for years, has struck again, this time injuring a 6-year-old girl in a church.
In the latest attack, an electric votive candle exploded in the hands of Greta Momesso Sunday in Motta di Livenza near Treviso, the Times of London reported Tuesday.
Doctors worked to reconstruct three of the girl's fingers. It was the 32nd attack in a 12-year campaign, targeting mostly children.
The Italian press has dubbed the attacker the "unabomber" after Ted Kaczynski, the American arrested in 1996 after killing three people and injuring 22 by sending parcel bombs between 1978 and 1995.
The Italian bomber's hallmark is concealing explosives in groceries such as tomato paste and mayonnaise on supermarket shelves, as well as in objects used by children.
Roberto Calderoli, Italy's Minister for Reform, has called for the return of the death penalty in Italy "for anyone who harms children."
