TUNIS, Tunisia, March 10 (UPI) -- Egypt and Tunisia called for joining Arab and international efforts to push forward the peace process in the Middle East.

Tunisian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghanoushi and Egypt's Ahmed Nazif made the call for implementation of the so-called "road map" to peace at a joint news conference in Tunis Wednesday night at the end of the meetings of the Higher Joint Commission between their two countries.

"There is an urgent need to boost peace in the Middle East by implementing commitments under the road map," Nazif said.

His Tunisian counterpart underscored the importance of reviving joint Arab action and establishing inter-Arab relations based on confidence, trust and mutual respect.

"Tunisia is following up closely and with great concern the situation in Iraq and hopes the Iraqis will agree to work together in order to achieve their aspirations for sovereignty and independence," Ghanoushi said.
