Rice heads to Asia

WASHINGTON, March 9 (UPI) -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will highlight "positive momentum" in Asia when she visits the region next week.

The State Department said in a statement Rice will visit India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Japan, Korea and China March 14-21.

"In South Asia, the secretary will highlight positive momentum in the region, including our transformed relationship with India, our continuing commitment to Afghanistan's reconstruction and our long-term engagement with Pakistan," the statement said.

In East Asia, Rice is expected to engage three key members of stalled multilateral talks on North Korea's nuclear weapons. Discussions are also expected to include global and regional cooperation in nations such as Iraq and Afghanistan.
