Police fear suspect faked tsunami death

BRAMPTON, Ontario, March 9 (UPI) -- A Sri Lankan man suspected in the shooting death of a Toronto-area woman may have faked his death in December's tsunami, the Toronto Sun reports.

Vijayarajah Manickavasagar, 23, was known to have returned to his native Sri Lanka before the Dec. 26 disaster, but five other suspects in custody provided some useful information.

"There is a possibility and legitimate concern that he may fake his death," Peel Regional Police Det. Dan Valleau said, citing also intelligence from Sri Lankan authorities and Interpol.

The man is sought as the alleged triggerman who gunned down a 20-year woman through the front door of her home in Brampton, 30 miles northwest of Toronto a year ago. The woman and her three brothers had been followed home by the three men after an altercation at a nightclub.

Manickavasagar is sought on a Canadian warrant and has been red-flagged by Interpol, which means he can be arrested anywhere, the newspaper said.
